Strategy Consultant (Associate)

BroadBranch Advisors seeks an outgoing and dynamic individual with a scientific or lab background to join our team of business strategy consultants. We solve complex strategy and market questions for our clients, and our team members learn unique skills that will serve them well at BroadBranch and beyond.

BroadBranch is a remote organization supported by a robust program of in-person and virtual engagement to foster team culture. We hire and support candidates on the East Coast, as we expand from our legacy base in the DMV (the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia).

Background

The ideal candidate for this position is “quick on their feet” and enjoys interfacing with a wide range of people across a broad set of business problems. BroadBranch Advisors helps our clients develop growth strategies through market analysis and competitive assessment; we have a strong practice in the Life Sciences sector and we support clients across a wide variety of topics — drug discovery, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and molecular diagnostics, to name a few. We also work with clients in Financial Services, Food and Beverage, Tech, and Industrial Manufacturing, among other sectors.

We seek candidates who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement in molecular biology or similar (e.g., biochemistry, biology, genomics) at a four-year college or university, and have 0-5 years of prior work experience in a related field. Candidates are expected to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment. They should possess excellent communication skills, confidence, and a ‘can-do’ attitude.

We offer development opportunities, accessible senior leadership, a generous benefits package, and a flexible work environment.

Responsibilities

BroadBranch Advisors is a boutique firm and we offer all team members, regardless of title or tenure, exposure to every aspect of our client work — from initial sale to final project delivery. After learning our methodology, Associates conduct primary and secondary research, external interviews, and analysis, both individually and as part of a team. As an Associate, you will provide a technical perspective to project outcomes and support a variety of life science-focused project workflows. You will also play a role in client communications for our work product and new business opportunities (sales). You will carry out your responsibilities in a remote work environment, giving you added flexibility to balance work and personal demands.

As an Associate you will:

  • Have direct access to clients and senior-level leadership
  • Use your scientific and technical knowledge in your role as a subject matter advisor for your project team
  • Have a platform to build on your technical skills while learning new ways to apply them to our clients’ commercial challenges
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with external stakeholders using relevant analytical frameworks and techniques
  • Distill actionable recommendations and intriguing insights from research and interviews
  • Effectively communicate findings to clients through the development of creative and impactful presentations
  • Support team workflows from start to finish

Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or similar (e.g., biochemistry) with strong academic qualifications
  • 0-5 years of prior experience, preferably in a life sciences role (e.g., lab-based experience in basic research, pharma/biotech, or within a life science/diagnostics tools supplier)
  • Demonstrated success in gathering primary and secondary research through a range of research methodologies
  • Demonstrated success in analyzing and synthesizing information to draw accurate, logical, and actionable conclusions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity, persistence, and an outgoing nature
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Ability to work permanently in the US, or for at least 3 years without sponsorship in the US

Preferred but not required

  • Mandarin, Japanese, German, or other language skills
